Over Torqued Wheel Lugs Empty
PostSubject: Over Torqued Wheel Lugs   Over Torqued Wheel Lugs EmptyMon May 02, 2011 9:02 am

Anyone?

Ok, I have just overtorqued a couple of the lugs on the rear wheel of a RZR-S. I had my torque wrench set to 90 foot pounds (as specified) and the damn things have stretched the lug bolts to their elastic limits. They are now necked and cant be tightened properly. Are those screw / bolts that are protruding from the hub removable? If so, how the hell would you go about getting them out and replacing them? Have I screwed up and will have to replace the entire hub? I hope not!

Any help here?

Chad

The studs are pressed in so you will have to take the hub off and take it to someone that has a press. Small hand press should do it. Push the old ones out and new in. A machine shop could do it it the dealership but they may charge you more. They are changeable. If you where closer I could do it at my Dad's shop, not hard to do.

I always put antiseze on the studs, i have never had a issue but had decided after chrisc had that problem to drop to 70 fps and its been fine.

I just use a hammer to peck them out. And then hammer new ones back in. I have broken a few hubs and I always get new wheel studs and change them out while I am at it . Very easy, no special tools needed. If you did twist the wheel stud inside the hub, then yes you will need a new hub.
