Coolant Leak Empty
PostSubject: Coolant Leak   Coolant Leak EmptySun Oct 23, 2011 11:42 pm

First off, its not coming from the weep hole on the water pump, its coming from around the neck where the hose connects. Doesn't do it while running just when its sits overnight its wet around the bottom of the hose and has a small strip where its ran down. Here are a few things I may try and would like some input.

1) loosen clamp, turn a little and retighten.
2) loosen clamp and move clamp up maybe 1/8" to get hold of a little "fresh" hose to bit on.
3) remove hose cut maybe 1/2" off bottom and slip back on and tighten.

If I have to go to option 3, which I believe there just enough hose to do, I thought to minimize coolant loss was to take couple small pieces of wood and clamp/compress the hose and if I do I will have a small air pocket when I put the hose back on what's the best way to burp the system.

What's do you all think?

Mike you have what is known as a cold leak. when everything is cold and shrinks up,
it is leaking from what sounds like the hose. When its hot and swells up it stops.
just loosen the clamp slide the hose around a bit and re tighten ,
and hopefully you will be fine. let us know how it turns out... 431114

When I used to work for Ford, we had a few of the Lincoln Mark VIII's do this. we had to brush on a little bit of rubber sealer. But, watch out what kind you purchase to make sure it is safe for cast aluminum.

Got it! Clamp must had stretched a little. Tightened up some and no leak. I did notice that even from the factory the clamp had cut into the rubber a little.
