Just a thought I had about them. Tell me what you think. I think the real reason they dont last is because they are not truely sealed. Since they are dual inner raced seperate bearings, water gets in thru that crack in the center -its not sealed because I have put grease into the bearings before using my fingers to force it in thru that split....and if you seperate them, you can see how they are not sealed.

So I'm going to experiment and use that black gasket maker to silicone and seal the bearing to the hub...So what do you think? Good, bad, no difference?

I am not sure why they go out so soon but putting some sealer in the gap can't hurt.

That gap is how I think water gets in also, but I dont think a seailer will hold up. The two races are not held together so they can spin indipendent to each other, prob not much but it would not take much to brake the seailer loose. But heck try it cant hurt anything

I think the water would be getting into the bearings between the axle shaft and the inner bearing race where the inner races are split.I don't know if i would put anything between the outer race and the hub other than some anti-seize. This is just my 2 cents. 431114

The way I see it, the hub slides onto the axle spline and fits inside the wheel bearing. The carrier is what you press the bearing into. But by sealing (which would also "glue") both inner races to the hub,the two seperate inner races would be fixed with respect to each other and to the hub.....If you have ever used that black high temp rtv gasket maker it is some good stuff--I think it will work but no way of knowing unless to try it --why its called an expeirment..

The only problem I can see is that if it works, may have to use a slide hammer to remove the hub next time..
