Subject: Left rear hub popping Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:20 pm
At the Jam over the weekend my left rear wheels begin making a popping noise. I took the tire off and tightened the hub nut about 1/2 a turn. (Actually tightened to 80lbs per book specs) I never heard another thing from it until I got it home now it pops like crazy. How can I tell if the noise is the the wheel bearing or the CV joint? My next question is how hard are they to replace or should I take it to the dealer? Any help is appreciated

Sounds to me like its a broke hub.. They are not hard to change and are around $40.00

I actually had a rear rotor shear off the hub. Never even noticed poor braking or the damage till I was working on other things. Edge could be right also. Had a buddy that sheared all the grooves out of the hub (were CV goes in). I have no idea how in the hell it did not brake the hub before shearing though.
