My crappy Super ATV high clearance rods bent on me climbing the Widowmaker. I was going to go ahead and replace them with some Highlifter rods but decided to wait until I also do the High clearance Trailing Arm conversion. I just bought a new house in November, so $ for the RZR is going to have to wait until next winter.
I figure there might be others on here also running these rods, so I thought I would post what I did to fix and beef mine up.
It would be a lot easier to beef them up before they bend. Mine bent at their existing bends and all across the straight section between the bends. So I took out some of the existing bends and straightened the bar with a hydraulic press. I then re-bent the existing bends with a torch and heavy hammer in a vise and used the other good bar as a template.
The rods are 1" OD, so I used 3/4" keystock for my gussets / braces. I traced out the shape of the bar on the keystock and cut it with a band saw.
I lost 3/4" of clearance, but it is worth it.
