PostSubject: Test the SAC of your battery   Sat Mar 13, 2010 5:08 pm

I had some problems with my stock PoPo battery and decided it was time to up-grade. I know Polaris put in a small body battery because it is lighter and cheaper but for us that have added extras that draw more juice, the stock was just not enough. I decided to get the Odessey 925L because it took the least amout of fab work to install and I think it is just a bad-ass battery. I also decided to run a battery tender jr just to never have to worry about the battery being ready to go when I am.

I have seen many times on the trail where you will have to run the winch without the machine being running (on you side) so I decided to do a little battery test of my own. I know this is not a "real world" test and I am not claiming it to be. It was just a simple was for me to look at how the Odessy will hold up.

I simply pulled my machine 40 foot up my driveway with the winch without the engine running. I checked the voltage with an olms meter before and after.

Before:

The test:

After:

Again, I know this is not a real test to say the battery will hold up, but just someting I was curious about. The starting voltage of 13.13 volts is high because I had just unhooked the battery tender. I think on the trail the voltage will run around 12.7'ish and I will check that later.

If anyone has a stock battery, winch, olms meter and some time, I would love to see your results.

Just an up-date on the battery SAC, I shined on the buggy today and left the radio jammin for about 3 hours today and checked the voltage before I put it up and had 12.66V. I am very happy with my decision to get the Odessey so far! 971386 971386

Do you have the dimensions of your stock battery box and 925 battery?

MY 13 is made different than your photos..

stock battery is 6 1/8 Tall
3 1/2 wide
6 3/4 long

stock battery box is 6 1/8 Tall
5 1/4 wide
6 3/4 long

storage box is 6" tall
5 1/4 wide
6 1/2 long

A dual battery setup looks super easy and with no cutting as my battery tray and storage compartment are sidexside and there is access between the two for the cables.. Looks as if the battery hold down will work in both compartments..

Mine has had the Odyssey in it for about a year now. Last night ride, with HID conversions and bumper mount HID's and heater blower on full speed, the battery light started flashing. I checked the voltage the next day and it was a little over 11 volts. I checked the ground on the frame and found it was a mud and rusty mess. Going to move it up higher. I cleaned everything and put a 5 amp. battery Tender on it. No more problems.
