What do you mean riding season.... it was summer time. most people were riding. What are you waiting on it to snow.....
I would go with factory bearings if it was me.... as for the slop in the steering , Most likly the tie rod ends. just replace both. get the factory ones. and put a grease needle in them. and fill the boot with grease. They will last much longer if you do...
