Looks like a person could just take the nut off the other end of the cable since it is pretty much exposed right in front of the rear tire. That could be done in less than a minute and would let you put it in any gear.

Thats my thought... kinda like the "The Club" just cut the steering wheel instead...

or just pull out the old 45 and tell the guy to please crank it up and put in high and slowly step out

That reminds me of this true story. Back in the 80's my aunts boyfriend went to go pick her daughter up at the movies. He got there way early and decided just to wait.He had a black camaro with black limo window tint. This guy decided to break into his car but he didn't know that my aunts boyfrirend was in it. 15minutes later the guy got the door open. What a suprise he found...he didn't go any where until the cops showed up

true, but most thieves are lazy and would rather move on to the next one. if they want it bad enough they will get it dont matter what you do.
