One of these days I will meet you looney-toons! I get a kick out of this, but you guys know some shit. Its good to have people to get some information and experience on. I took out my front differential tonight and opened up. Gunny, you were right, I had a metal sprague cage in mine, to my relief. Everything was pretty clean it considering all of the mud and water i have been through. It really suprised me. I examined the workings and functions of how that thing works. Someone put a lot of thought into that damn thing I can tell ya that. One question, I have not consulted the shop manual yet, but the set screw on the front differential, how tight or loose should that be? Im thinking that is what I may have heard rubbing up there in the front. My prop shaft vibrates, but that shhhh, shhhh, seems to have been coming from the front. It would always go away when I engaged the 4wd, so I feel like I may have cornered it. I believe that plate and armature seem to work in conjunction with that set screw and plate somehow? Am I correct? Any thoughts form any of you, I all ears. I plan on reinstalling it this weekend. have to go pick up some fluid from Po-Po. Let me know?

Chad

Your right it is to set the drag on the on the armature. There is supposed to be a small amount of resistance when you turn the propshaft. Rotate the prop shaft and tighten the screw intill you feel drag. Should be good to go then. I used the blue locktite on mine.

Im having the same problem and I grease that thing after every ride!

I feel very strongly that my loose u-joints had a lot to do with my front diff failing. I suggest replacing them before it happens to you.

Dave , Tell us how you really feel.... Very Happy

whacky21 To Chris not you ukistipps. As we all know that style diff is just a bad design on the pinion output side. I was told this diff style fails mainly because of the seal failing and allowing crap to get into the bearing and loss of diff fluid. The prop shaft has play from the factory and any more can only contribute to failure. Just trying to pass along info to hopefully save someone from having to replace a diff, as I did. Didnt mean to sound like an ass.

Don't get so serious Dave Damn.... lol!

Just yankin your chain Chris. You know I love you.

I know, I was just making sure.... jocolor

I never had my S front diff apart. but what you discribe. when i had my Rhino,
it did that exact same thing the whole time i owned it. in 2WD it had a vibration
in the front end. but when i was in 4WD it did not do it. but it always worked.
My RZR has always been very smooth in 2 wheel and in 4 So i don't know... No
