Can Am 1000 only has one rear brake

Yep thats right. the new Can am's only have one rear brake on the right side , no left

The 800 Can Am Renagade I have has one rear brake but it is on the rear driveshaft and it works pretty good. It could be better. I am in the process of building a 975cc race bike so I am putting a set of front wheel hubs/rotors on the back and welding a bracket to mount the calipers so I can have better rear wheel breaking. I am sure you could do the same to the Commander but you really shouldn't have to.

Kind of scary...I have a "reservation" to test-drive one tomorrow afternoon at Brimstone, I'll post my impression, but I have to admit I'm going in to it with a negative impression based on what I've seen and heard.

I had a little mini bike once that when you hit the brake it forced a flat piece of metal against the tire to stop you. It looks like Can Am took braking to the next step.....

my arctic cat prowler 650 had only one rear brake, stopped ok but it wouldn't run over 50. Can am with the speed it goes should have 2 imo

Keep in mind. this thing has only 3 brakes
and it weighes almost 15 hundred pounds. ......
I bet them pads dont last long. and thay will want a hundred
bucks for on set of pads for the rear....

I love my RZR more and more everyday......

Take your 1300 add a winch a mount , a roof and full skids. extra light.
all the bull shit everyone adds. and you have Wala around 1500 pounds.
Still 3 brakes any way you want to put it.....

As to the 3 brake setup, what gets me is how cheap and mickey mouse that non brake hub looks. Ive seen beefier setups on go-carts.

OK...So I test drove the commander Friday afternoon. It was a yellow XT 1000. Lots of power, more than I would ever need. Handled OK, rides nice, engine braking is crazy. It just didn't impress me. I still can't get used to the looks, and nothing else excited me. Of the 6 people in my group, 4 have RZR-S's and I have a RZR and none of us said we would give up our RZR for it. The only Guy who liked it drives a Prowler

They had an "X" there but someone testing it popped the bead on a beadlock wheel Friday

08 and 09 do have 4 , 07 and down only have 3......

So you are ok. Even though you still need an RZR.....

Yep, the 04-07 models had 1 disc mounted on the rear drive shaft.

The only major thing that steers me away from them is the fairly high maintenance and small bed. I love the seating position compared to a Rhino,power is there, suspension is there..........
My Rhino has used 1 set of brake pads and 1 set of wheel bearings in 3800 miles, hauls a chainsaw with 18" bar, hauls 2gal gas, spare tire, large cooler, and a toolbox. And I can get about 100-120 miles on a tank of gas.........

That maintenance thing is a myth . if you use common since
and grease everything properly. you will be fine.
Just ask dave. he drives the hell out of his. and only replaced a
tie rod and a belt. everything will break if you treat it bad enough....
